Welcome to the
Pacific Climbing Series
California-based climbing gyms are joining forces this year to pilot a new youth bouldering series from late September to early December. The competition structure consists of four qualifying competitions in the south and four in the north. Athletes must participate in at least two (2) of these to move on to the championship—held at Touchstone's new Pacific Pipe gym in Oakland. We plan to rotate the championship event between north and south each season.

Category and Format
Cost:
$75 per comp early registration
(until the Sunday before the comp)
$100 per comp late registration
Format:
The Pacific Climbing Series inaugural season will be a hybrid modified redpoint format where athletes will be tested across a diverse spread of climbing styles. Aspects of this new format might be refined over the course of the season with input from athletes, parents, coaches, and route setters.
We will be beginning the season with a few unique features to ensure athletes of all abilities have a high value experience for gaining more comp experience while also challenging everyone in a way that matches experience and ability.
A few features that will be included are predefined climbing styles that will be represented at the comps so that athletes know what to train for as well as additional bonus attempts per boulder that simulate the pressures of onsite formats.
At registration we are asking a few additional questions during registration to gather information about each athlete to explore the ability to categorize based on climbing experience and other characteristics so that athletes can gauge performance across a range of competitor fields.
Categories:
Birth year + gender (Male/Female/Non-Binary)
10 boulders by category
Day of Schedule:
Comp day will consist of a morning and afternoon session grouped by category.
10am-1pm: 8-12 y/o born 2012-2016
2pm-5pm: 13-17 y/o born 2007-2011
Scoring:
Scoring will be a two zone point system with additional bonus scoring for flashing and repeating boulders
4 boulders will be defined as championship boulders typical of what one might find at a USAC Regional or Divisional Championship
6 boulders will be set as distinct “tests” that allow athletes to learn and demonstrate abilities in a diverse array of climbing styles.
